We Make God A Liar

Home  BLOG  Post#7

Beware of making God a liar! As believers in Jesus Christ, we do that when we question our eternal security. If you say, how can that be, please let me explain.

As believers in Jesus Christ, God does not want us to live in fear of losing our salvation. That is why the Bible states in 1 John 5:13, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you might know that you have eternal life.” These things refer to the end of 1 John 4:11-12, “And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.”

God does not want us to be uncertain of our eternal life; He does not want us to have doubts about our eternal security. God wants us to know with certainty that we have eternal life. That is why it is stated many times in the Bible including one of the best known of all salvation verses—John 3:16, “God loved the world so much that He gave His uniquely born Son that whosoever believes in Him shall never perish but have eternal life.” That’s real security! That’s eternal security.

Our sin can never cancel our eternal life because Jesus Christ sacrifice on the cross permanently paid the penalty for those sins with His spiritual death on the cross. So no matter what sin we commit during his life after salvation, we are eternally saved. Romans 4:7-8, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sin have been covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.” When God looks down from heaven and sees our sin, He sees Christ sacrifice that removed sin as an issue in salvation. That is God’s unconditional, unmerited grace.

John 3:18, “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.” God Himself states the only reason for that eternal condemnation of any human being is for not believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, for not accepting God’s grace gift of His Son.

Some Christians reject eternal security. And when they do, they make God a liar. But God does not lie. His statements contained in Scripture are absolute and true. He cannot change His mind and He cannot change what He has stated. Recorded in the Bible, the Word of God, are numerous statements of our undeserved, unconditional, eternal security. We have looked at many of those in the last five posts.

Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; [now two rhetorical questions follow] has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” 1 John 5:10-12, “The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.”

Notice the Bible says, “the one who does not believe makes God a liar.” When we do not believe the eternal security promises of God, WE MAKE GOD A LIAR!!!

It is not good for any believer to call God a liar. If we do, we will live a life under divine discipline and miss out on the life of great blessing and happiness that God has for us.
