Cyprian Antwi Awuah

Introduction

Cyprian Awuah

Saved by Grace, Led by Grace, and now Fulfilling His Destiny by Grace

Cyprian Awuah

Upon completion of Polytechnic School, where he received a Higher National Diploma in Marketing, Cyprian spent one year in obligatory national service. After which, he attended Calvary Chapel Bible Training Center in the eastern part of Ghana. His mother gave him the gospel and he accepted Jesus Christ as a child, but he always wanted to learn more about God. While attending the Bible school, he heard Chuck Smith speak and wondered where he learned what he knew about the Bible. His teachings were different from what Cyprian had grown up with. Also at the Bible school, Cyprian became a teacher’s assistant. That was his first introduction to teaching others. He did not know at the time, but that was the start to what he would later recognize as the spiritual gift of Pastor Teacher.

One day on campus, Cyprian had a casual “chance” meeting with another teacher assistant, and he noticed a book in his hand and the title caught Cyprian’s attention. The book was “The Divine Outline of Human History” by R.B Thieme Jr. Cyprian asked if he could borrow it. He now realizes that was not a chance meeting, but rather God’s perfect plan unfolding. God in His grace was providing a “seeker” with the information he had been searching for.

Cyprian read it five times and could not believe that God had a specific design and perspective for all of human history. Noticing there was an address in the book for R.B. Thieme Jr Bible Ministries, he wrote a letter requesting more books. That led him to a concentrated study of the books and bible lessons taught by R.B. Thieme Jr. Cyprian “spent from sunup to sundown studying.” During this time, Cyprian discovered two other men who were also studying under R.B. Thieme. One was a pastor in Nigeria. Unbeknownst to Cyprian, God would use that pastor’s change of circumstance years later to direct Cyprian’s path.

Postal service in Ghana is limited. Most people do not even have a physical address where they live, and postal service like we have in America is nonexistent. But God’s grace provided Cyprian with a mailbox. The principal at the Bible School let him use the school’s postal address for delivery of the books and tapes. In fact, every time a shipment arrived, he would pick it up at the post office and bring it to Cyprian.

Not long after that, Cyprian had his first opportunity at the Bible Training Center to teach some of what he was learning from R.B. Thieme Jr. He decided to teach eternal security, a doctrine that is repeatedly distorted by Christian pastors throughout Ghana. Some of the students had doubts on Cyprian’s teachings on the subject, and they addressed those concerns to the principal. He then cautioned Cyprian that there was no way to be certain about one’s eternal security. Looking back Cyprian sees that as God’s grace preparing him for the many times he would be challenged on the Bible doctrines he taught going forward.

My Gold

After completing his studies, Cyprian asked the principal if he could remain at the Bible Training Center and study more; the principal agreed to let him remain and continue on as a teacher’s assistant, which he did for another year. Then he went to his uncle’s where he spent the next two years in concentrated study of all the R.B. Thieme Jr. materials in his possession. During that time, Cyprian discovered a software program called “Search the Scriptures” that had R.B. Thieme Jr's books and Bible lessons in text format. He proceeded to print all that were available and bound in notebooks for further study. Here is a picture of Cyprian holding one. He calls them “my gold.”

At this point, Cyprian felt led to go to Accra (pronounced “AK RAH’), the capital of Ghana. He stayed with a friend while trying to find a job teaching at a private school. During that time, he had the opportunity to teach God’s Word to a group of people in a house in the evenings three times a week. The house had no electricity, so they used candles. Using a small whiteboard, Cyprian taught in the candle light.

The job hunt was not going well, and life was difficult for him at that point, but Cyprian had absolute confidence, a firm future expectation, that God had a plan for him, and even though he was not sure what was next, he knew he was in God’s plan and that God would direct his path.

Cyprian’s oldest sister, who was a Police Officer in Accra, knowing his situation, suggested that Cyprian attend the University of Education - Winneba and study for a Bachelor of Science degree in Education Management. She graciously offered to pay the tuition and allowed him to stay with her while he attended the university. God’s grace was providing more academic preparation. After completing his degree, Cyprian signed up for more national service while he figured out next steps (Ghanaians get paid while on national service so it was a good source of income).

In 2016, after only four months of national service, God opened an unexpected door for Cyprian to go to Nigeria as the Pastor for Grace Bible Church (now Faith Alone in Christ Alone Bible Church). Cyprian knew immediately that God opened the door, that it was exactly what God wanted him to do, and it was where God wanted him to be. But He also had a sense that this would only be a temporary assignment from the Lord.

Grace Bible Church was founded by Pastor Kingsley Emenike. Pastor Kingsley and Cyprian had become friends because both were studying under R.B. Thieme Jr. Pastor Kingsley had moved to Canada and needed someone one to take over as pastor teacher in his absence. Cyprian immediately moved to Nigeria.

With his congregation in Nigeria, Cyprian studied and taught consistently. He taught on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and held a prayer meeting on Wednesday. And he also posted messages for his congregation and others on Facebook. Not realizing it at the time, but Facebook would be a powerful tool for him later in dissemination of accurate Bible teaching. Cyprian still uses it today. Many pastors consistently read the messages and view the Bible teaching videos that he posts. [Few in Ghana have internet, but many have a phone with data connectivity.]

The church provided him a room in someone else’s home. Cyprian said that he studied so much that he did not feel like he had a normal life, but that God’s Word and the enthusiasm from his congregation as to what he was teaching was very encouraging. Many in the congregation told him they were learning things they had never heard before. That was richly rewarding for Cyprian. He loved what he was doing.

Also, during that time, Cyprian was invited to speak at conferences. Many of the attendees would come up afterwards and ask if they could get a copy of his notes. But he did not have detailed notes only an outline of the message he was teaching. This created a circumstance that Cyprian was attuned to, that God then used as divine guidance to bring Cyprian to his destiny in God’s perfect plan.

The pastors asking for his notes wanted to teach like Cyprian. So, he started training classes for them on Saturdays. He quickly realized that the pastors not only needed training in Biblical theology and doctrines but also in hermeneutics. This led him to wrote two books: One is titled “Salvation, Eternal Life, and Eternal Security” and the other is “Preparation for the Pulpit: Do Not Rush to the Pulpit, Get Knowledge First.”

Cyprian stayed in Nigeria teaching for four years. God’s grace was providing him not only the experience of teaching God’s Word but also experience in church leadership. He would need both for his destiny for which God was now training him.

In Ghana, the pastors at many Christian churches find a verse in the Bible, take it out of context, and make it to be whatever they want it to be (Satan’s cosmic system is alive and well throughout the world; this problem is not just isolated to Ghana). Knowing this, Cyprian became more and more convinced that there was a need for someone to train pastors in how to correctly interpret and accurately teach the Word of God. And to do it with a focus using the hermeneutical method, especially the need to always consider a verse in the context of the passage in which it is written.

As a result, in the later part of 2019, Cyprian left the church in Nigeria (he still has very close relationship with them) and went back to Ghana to establish a place where pastors could be trained not only Biblical theology and doctrines but also in “righty dividing the Word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. He prayed, thought about it carefully, and concluded that it was God’s will for his life, and so he set out on his new mission. He had no idea where he would find such a place, but he was certain that was God’s plan for him, and as such, God would lead him to the right place at the right time, and He would provide everything he needed for the mission.

Some pastors he knew in Ghana offered up their church buildings as a place for training other pastors, but Cyprian believed he needed a place to train pastors that was not a church. He said, “When you use another pastor’s church, it creates problems.”

Initially, Cyprian stayed in a friend’s house the in town of Kasoa, only about 25 miles from Accra and used that as a base. He taught classes there and anywhere where else pastors could assemble. He was invited to speak at churches and at Bible conferences. He also taught by posting messages on Facebook. But he really needed a permanent building, and so he made that an urgent, consistent prayer request.

Finally in 2022, he found the perfect property in Domeabra next to Kasoa, and at the same time God provided the funding needed to purchase it.

He bought bags of cement and started making bricks. During the initial construction, he needed a place to keep the bags of cement from getting wet. He asked the neighbors in the small little house next door to the property, and they let him store the cement in their house. God’s grace again. Here is a picture of the neighbors and their house. You can see it is very small, and yet they allowed Cyprian to store his cement inside.

It took Cyprian about three years to complete the building. The result is Bold Grace Bible Institute in Domeabra (adjacent to Kasoa), which conducts consistent training for any pastors in Ghana and any of the surrounding countries who would like to attend.

Cyprian is laser focused on what he now sees as his destiny in the plan of God and that is to train pastors for the communication of God’s Word in Western Africa. Please pray for Cyprian and Bold Grace Bible Institute.
