Eternal Security
Can a believer in Jesus Christ ever lose his or her salvation? Is there a sin or evil deed that can cancel what God has given us? The short answer is no! In the next few posts, we will look at several reasons why.
Eternal Security is the absolute assurance that once a person believes in Jesus Christ, faith alone in Christ alone, not works, salvation can never be lost. Never! Acts 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” “Believe” is the Greek gnomic aorist tense of PISTEUO, which means we believe once for all time. Notice it also says, “You shall be saved.” There are no conditions on that. John 20:31 “But these things have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name.” There is no doubt. You will have eternal life in His name just by believing.
The Bible clearly states that we have eternal life. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life." Eternal life! It is not interrupted life or temporary life or probationary life. Eternal life is a grace gift that lasts forever. If we cannot do anything to earn that gift, what can we do to lose the gift? God the Father looking down the corridors of time, knew every sin we would commit, and He poured out those sins in Christ and judged Him for every one of them. That is why when we believe in the saving work of Christ on the cross we are saved. So when we sin, that does not go back and undo the saving work of Christ when He was judged for that sin. So we should not spend a second thinking that some sin has cancelled Christ’s work on the cross. It can’t.
Tomorrow, we will look at how as Christians, we are members of God’s family. We can never get out of His family.
