Sealing Ministry of the Holy Spirit

Home  BLOG  Post#5

In the last few Facebook posts, we have look at several reasons why a believer in Jesus Christ can never lose their salvation. Here is another. At the moment we put our faith in Christ, we are sealed by God the Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit places a seal or a signature next to the person’s name in the Book of Life. This is His sign of ownership of every believer. Anything to which God attaches His seal belongs to Him forever. No person can buy or steal the believer from the possession of God. We are marked or branded. God owns us.

Ephesians 4:30, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 1:13-14, "In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.” Sealed by God is a sign of possession. We are eternally His. That is comforting.

In addition, Jesus Christ Himself guaranteed our eternal security when He said in John 10:28, “I give unto them eternal life, they shall never perish and no one shall snatch them out of My hand.” Jesus Christ as God is immutable. He never changes. He cannot break His promise of eternal life. He also said in John 10:29-30, “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” Our heavenly Father never lets go of us no matter how bad we are or how rebellious we are. We are forever in His hand.

Eternal security means that God is forever with us; He never abandon’s us. There are no conditions to His care and keeping. Hebrews 13:5b, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Psalm 37:24, “When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; because the Lord is the One who holds His hand.” God never lets us go of the believer in Jesus Christ. Psalm 139:9-10, “If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.” Not only are we eternally secure, but God never leaves us on our own.

As you think about eternal security, remember it is not something any of us deserve. It is totally God’s grace. It is part of His unmerited favor that He bestows on us because of the person and work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
